Re: WPC 2007 in Rio

We need to attract some Brazilians to this forum.  To get some "insiders' information" and stuff...

Do you think anyone (especially Thomas Snyder) can stop Ulrich Voigt this year in Brazil? Write your top three. They are mine:
1. Ulrich Voigt
2. Thomas Snyder
3. Mehmet Murat Sevim

I think USA team will be first again. What do you think?

My top-3 is:
1. Thomas
2. Ulrich
3. one of these wonderful young japanese puzzlers, maybe this time Yuhei or Hideaki

1. Japan
2. USA
3. Germany

The latest results of Thomas look impressive, but I don't think he can bit Ulrich. And this cannot be anyone other (only finale can help somebody to do it).
See the results of WPC in the last five-six year - you can see the same picture (especially if we don't consider the finals). Four-five people (Ulrich, Wei-Hwa, Niels, Roger, Michael) always get the top places and every year somebody ioins them. But the next year he "falls". I don't see any reason to change the tradition at next time.
Also you can compare the points - every time Ulrich has a gap, and others have a very close results. And because second or third place is the luck.

I think Ulrich Voigt will be first. Other tops will be Wei-Hwa Huang, Niels Roest, Roger Barkan, Michael Ley,Thomas Snyder, Pal Madarasy. And three remainig places in top-10 can win any puzzlers from top 40-50 of last championships.

I wasn't speaking about the positions after the preliminaries. Ulrich will definitely win this smile I was speaking about the place on podium.

Final is not a sport, it's only a lottery. I don't want to discuss the lottery results.

Actually all the puzzles of this and other WPCs are copyrighted. So it is very unlikely that they will be available for free download. But all the competitors are gonna have it, so ask them directly.

Re: WPC 2007 in Rio

Very interesting (as always) review of the WPC by the vice-champion Thomas Snyder.

Re: WPC 2007 in Rio

I should be there as I was the best Italian scorer last year. For the others, it's too early to say. Most countries will run the selection tournements after the World Sudoku championship. Many countries use the USA tournement to select their team. This will take place in June.

However there is very little activity on the World puzzle organization website. To date their site says nothing about the Sudoku championship in Goa (next month !!!!) The Lithuanian site just says yes, there will be a championship here.

I think that most European countries (particularly Eastern European) should come, plus a few other countries (USA, Japan, Canada, Brazil) - plus maybe other extra European countries. But I believe nobody is really thinking about it now, they are all focussed on the WSC. Lets get rid of it first.

Stefano
