Re: September's contest

Thanks for the puzzles.

why in the puzzle 2 answer c8,c7,c6,d7,e7  does not give points? (there are same quadrats in other order)?

At http://diogen.h1.ru/cgi-bin/contest/result.pl?id=24 you can find all submissions. If you interested you can check it. smile
Also the correct answers for puzzles are given. Looking through the puzzlers submissions you can find the best results on optimizers too.
Now Riad starts checking the answers I think it requires about a week.

The first checking is automatic - program simply compares answer string with the correct one. It's not too intellectual. Later Riad (or me) manually rechecks all answers and fixes such problems.

Re: September's contest

how will be selected best and worst puzzles by puzzle solvers? I think it's necessary. As you know best and worst puzzles were selected in prior IPST's. I think this is attractive application for the purposes of puzzle solvers.

In this round all puzzles were nice, i didnt see any puzzles have bad idea, so i can say this round has good puzzle combination. Especially "Battleships kakuro" and "Without K" are very well. Individual "Without K" is fascinating etc

Thanks to Riad for puzzle set and Andrey for help

Re: September's contest

As we can see the winners score is now in the table, but we are still waiting other results...

I understand the hard work of controllers.

How to interpret results in pentacross, where there are missing one mark or one line, but actually result can be checked?
Some guys found right answer, but marked in chessword both rocks with R2 ...

I made also stupid mistake - typed 5 instead of 6 - this is of course wrong answer now.

With best regards

Now the table has complete results. So we can congratulate Tomoaki on a victory.
This contest is found to be very difficult.
And thanks to Riad for the hard work on checking.

Re: September's contest

I really don't understand the solution of #11 ("Footsteps") by Alexander Shkolnikov.
It has odd number (=49) of steps. Moreover already the third move is impossible.
Or may we see not the last posting on web-page with results?
But if this solution is incorrect and it's the only solution which got 9 points,
then the results of all competitors with 7,5,3,1 points for #11 should be incremented by 2.

I asked Riad - he said Alexander had sent him a mail with pictures for the puzzles. And for puzzle 11 this picture had 48 steps.
